A garden tub to shower conversion replaces a large, deck-mounted soaking tub with a shower that fits the space better. Many homeowners in Phoenix, AZ find that these oversized tubs take up the most room in the bathroom while being used the least, so the space can be put to better use.
What the Project Involves
Garden tubs usually sit in a raised platform or surround, so the project starts by removing the tub, the deck, and any trim. The framing is then reviewed, the floor is repaired or leveled where the platform stood, and the drain and supply lines are moved to the new shower location. Because the layout changes more than in a standard tub swap, a simple plan or sketch before work starts is worth the time.
The large footprint gives the new shower room for features that a standard tub opening cannot hold. Installers waterproof the walls and floor, then install the shower base, walls, glass, and fixtures. Flooring around the old platform often needs patching or replacing, and some of that work depends on what is found under the deck.
What the Extra Space Can Hold
- A larger shower with a built-in bench or niche.
- Added storage, such as a linen cabinet or a longer vanity.
- A more open walkway through the room.
- A cleaner layout without a deck to scrub around.
What Affects the Price
Platform removal, flooring repairs, drain relocation, shower size, and the finishes you pick all influence the total. A bigger shower with tile, glass, and extras costs more than a compact prefabricated unit. Exact pricing for a garden tub to shower conversion depends on the project and a quote.
