A senior tub to shower conversion replaces a tub with a shower designed for easier, steadier bathing. It helps older adults in Phoenix, AZ stay comfortable at home by removing the need to step over a tall tub wall.
What the Project Involves
The tub is removed and the area is rebuilt as a low-entry shower with a slip-resistant floor. Safety features are planned during construction rather than added afterward. Grab bars should be anchored into solid blocking installed inside the wall, which is why their locations are decided before the walls are closed.
Other common additions include a built-in or fold-down seat, a handheld shower on a slide bar, easy-to-reach controls, and good lighting. Pairing these with a low or no threshold keeps the entry simple. It can help to involve family members and, where relevant, a healthcare professional such as an occupational therapist when choosing features. Plumbing work may need a permit in Phoenix, AZ, so confirm local rules.
When This Option Makes Sense
- Stepping over the tub wall feels unsteady or unsafe.
- You want to keep living independently in your current home.
- Family members want an easier bathroom for a parent or relative.
- You prefer to plan ahead for changing mobility needs.
What Affects the Price
The entry style, seat and grab bar options, base and wall materials, plumbing changes, and glass or curtain choice all affect cost. More accessibility features usually mean more materials and more preparation work inside the walls. Pricing for a senior tub to shower conversion depends on the project, so request a written quote that lists each feature. Non-slip flooring, lighting, and seat height are small details that make a daily difference, so ask about them early. Check permit and licensing rules for Phoenix, AZ before starting.
