A tub to walk in shower conversion replaces your existing bathtub with a shower you can step into without climbing over a tall tub wall. It suits homeowners in Phoenix, AZ who want an easier daily routine, more usable floor space, or a safer bathroom for everyone in the house.
What the Project Involves
The old tub, surround, and fixtures are removed first. The drain and water supply lines are then adjusted for the new shower position, and the floor and walls are waterproofed before the shower base, wall panels or tile, valve, and trim are installed. A glass door or panel and final sealing complete the work.
Most walk-in showers use the same footprint as the old tub, so the rest of the bathroom layout can stay as it is. Walk-in showers are also called step-in showers, because you enter over a low threshold instead of a high tub edge. Plumbing changes may require a permit in Phoenix, AZ, so confirm local rules and use licensed professionals where required.
When This Option Makes Sense
- You rarely or never use the tub for bathing.
- Stepping over the tub wall has become uncomfortable or unsafe.
- You want a bathroom that feels more open and is easier to clean.
- You plan to stay in your home and want an upgrade that lasts for years.
What Affects the Price
The biggest cost factors are the shower base and wall material, whether the drain location must change, the style of glass door or panel, and the fixtures you choose. Problems found once the tub is out, such as damaged flooring or walls, can also change the scope of work. Because every bathroom is different, exact pricing for a tub to walk in shower conversion depends on the project and a written quote, and comparing quotes line by line shows what each one includes.
